Language

Language is one of the fundamental bases of communication, yet many people have challenges using this tool in social, academic or professional contexts. Issues like word finding, organization of ideas, structuring of sentences and choice of proper vocabulary can limit how effective our communication is and how well others understand us. Language therapy focuses on the building blocks of language as well as individual areas of challenges in order to facilitate easier, more impactful communication.
Speech Sounds, Phonological Processing, & Oral Motor Function

Many people struggle with speech sounds, especially as children, but not all of us outgrow these challenges on our own. Speech sound therapy focuses on correctly placing articulators, such as the lips and tongue, in order to achieve speech sounds that are intelligible and recognizable. This improves intelligibility and, consequently, overall ease of communication. Phonological processing therapy focuses on challenges with letter-sound correspondence, which often coincides with speech sound disorders but can also occur on its own. Oral motor function, or how the oral motor cavity is structured and how articulators function, can also impact speech sounds, as well as breathing, feeding and swallowing.
Cognition & Executive Functioning

Cognition is how we absorb, process and retain the information we receive from our surroundings. Executive functioning is how humans use our higher-level thinking, processed in the frontal lobes of our brains, in order to interact with our environment. Challenges with cognition and executive functioning can result from a variety of congenital or acquired disorders or exist on their own. Challenges in both areas have large impact on overall development, academic progress, and social skills. Therapy in these areas focuses on steady practice to improve areas of weakness as well as real-life goal setting and implementation to gain more success in challenging life areas.
Fluency

Stuttering is a neurological condition that is unrelated to intelligence or ability to use and process language. It can be a temporary condition in children, and also be a permanent condition that requires lifelong management. There are many different types of stuttering as well as many levels of severity. Cluttering is another condition that is not neurological, but causes challenges with speech fluency in that speech is perceived as too fast or the pace too irregular to be easily intelligible. Therapy in both areas focuses on strategies to smooth speech so it becomes more fluid and intelligible, as well as education on the condition and self-advocacy.
Social Communication

All communication is social, but not all of us understand the "rules" of social interaction as easily or inherently as others. Social communication therapy addresses these challenges by directly explaining social rules that are only implied in most other situations, providing opportunities to interpret and practice dealing with hypothetical social situations, and opportunities to prepare for and evaluate real-life social situations to determine best courses of action and/or analyze what went well or what could have gone better and why. Social communication is often an area of challenge for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), but can also exist on its own or as a component of other conditions.
Multilingual Services

Parley Speech and Language Services is proud to offer therapy in English, Spanish and French. Bilingual speakers will be addressed and treated in both languages.

About Us

Hadley Stonecipher, MS CCC-SLP founded Parley Speech and Language Services in 2022. We are an independent speech language pathology clinic that operates within two spheres:
First, we offer communication therapy services to individuals around Gallatin Valley in the areas listed above. We offer both in-home and in-clinic services, depending on the needs of the client. We serve the early intervention (babies/toddlers) population through the high school/college-aged population.
Second, we work as independent contractors within private schools, preschools, and daycares in the Gallatin Valley, providing communication therapy services to students whose schools do not have a speech language pathologist on staff.
The benefits of in-school services from independent contractors are numerous. First, we have the opportunity to address many challenges where they most often occur, which is the most functional form of treatment. Second, we can work with both parents and teachers as necessary to increase effectiveness of treatment. Third, kids don’t have to have another after-school activity on their plate, and parents don’t have to fight to get one of the highly coveted after school therapy appointment slots at an outside clinic. Finally, as independent contractors, we can provide services in other environments beyond the school, as that need arises.
If you a part of a private school who is interested in contracting with us, please reach out.
